The war of words between BJP and TMC intensified following the attack on the NIA team in West Bengal. TMC alleges that central agencies have joined hands with the BJP and are arresting their party leaders ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, BJP claims that criminals are getting protection in Bengal under the TMC government and law and order in the country is deteriorating day by day.
1. The NIA team arrested Manobarto Jana and Balikharan Maiti in the Hoftinger blast case in 2022. Jana’s wife accused the NIA officials that the NIA team had forcibly entered their house and vandalized their house. Jana’s wife filed an FIR accusing the NIA team of violating her modesty.
2. NIA also registered a case with the local police regarding his assault. However, so far the Bengal Police has not arrested anyone in this case.
3. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the central investigation agencies ED, NIA and CBI are working for the BJP and are conducting raids without any information. Defending the attack on the NIA team at Bhoptinger, she said what would women do if someone forced their way into their home at night?
4. TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has also alleged collusion between central investigating agencies and BJP. TMC claims that a senior Bengal BJP leader met the NIA inspector on March 26. In this meeting a list of TMC leaders who are to be arrested is given.
5. NIA completely rejected TMC claims. NIA claimed that its team did not take any provocative action and the raid was conducted within the law.
6. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari rejected Abhishek Banerjee’s claims and challenged him to prove the BJP leader’s claim of meeting the NIA officer. Swandu Adhikari said that ‘Abhishek Banerjee says if he has the video then he should release it’.
7. Last week, the NIA team came to Bhoptinger to conduct raids and arrest two accused in the blast case that took place in 2022. During this time, when the NIA team returned after arresting two accused, the local people pelted stones at the NIA team. In which glasses of NIA vehicles were broken and many police officers were injured.
