Renowned littermate Bhabha Prasad Haliha passed away Achi-News

GUWAHATI: Renowned scholar of Shankari literature and professor Bhabha Prasad Haliha passed away on April 7.

Haliha was also the deputy office-bearer of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha and head of the Assamese department at the University of Gehati. In addition, he held the esteemed title of ‘Prajanarthana’ professor.

He has also won the prestigious Srimanta Sankardeva Award 2020 from the Government of Assam.

Tributes started pouring in from all directions, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who expressed deep grief on hearing the news of Khalia’s death. Sarma emphasized that Khalia’s contribution to literature will be appreciated by future generations.

Others also joined Sarma in paying tribute to Khaliha, including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Cabinet Ministers Atul Bora and Jayanta Malbarua. Khalia’s passing is mourned not only by the literary community but also by the wider society, in recognition of his significant influence on Assamese literature and culture.
