According to preliminary information, the fire started when colors and gulal were being thrown during the Dhulendi festival celebration. Meanwhile, the priest was also performing Aarti Mahakal with Kapoor. During this period a fire suddenly broke out and engulfed the flax above. It is said that her burning part fell down.

The priest was burned because of the fire. The servants are also burned. All have been admitted to the district hospital. Acting on information, Collector Neeraj Singh and SP Pradeep Sharma reached the hospital. Everyone’s condition is said to be out of danger. Some people say that the fire broke out suddenly while throwing gulal in the temple.
A servant said that gulal is poured on a priest during the Aarti. This gulal fell on the lamp and the fire started. It is suspected that a chemical laced gulal caused the fire. Some flakes are also placed in the temple to protect the silver wall of the sanctum sanctorum with color and gulal. They also came under. The fire was later brought under control.
Magisterial inquiry: There will be a magisterial inquiry into the incident of arson at Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple.
Ujjain Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident of arson that took place during Bhasma Aarti on Monday at Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain.
