To check teacher absenteeism and the use of deputations in Uttar Pradesh, the photographs of the entire teaching staff will now be displayed on the walls of public schools.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has issued instructions to all District Basic Education Officers in this regard.

These guidelines require the display of photographs for all teachers, including instructors (‘Anodashk’) and Para teachers (‘Shiksha Mitra), inside the classrooms.

The displays should also include each teacher’s educational qualifications, date of joining the school, mobile number, grade and subject assigned, and any achievements such as state or national teacher awards.

“Displaying photos of teachers in schools will enable students and management to easily distinguish between real teachers and substitutes,” an official said.

“The application should not be difficult for schools, even with 10-15 teachers, because the images will not require significant space,” he added.

Funding for this initiative comes from the Samagra Shiksha outlay for the academic session 2024-25.

The government has allocated 7.9 million rupees for teaching learning materials in primary schools and 3.3 million rupees for upper primary schools under the Remedial Teaching Program of the Learning Improvement Program.

The photos will also be used to inform parents about the identity of their children’s teachers. This increased awareness will allow them to raise concerns if a teacher is absent without a valid reason.

The state government, as I recall, issued a similar order earlier, but it was not responded to in letter and spirit, so a repeat order was issued.
