Two warships of the Indian Navy are being built in Russia. It is believed that by the end of this year these warships will join the fleet of the Indian Navy. In fact, these warships were supposed to be delivered to India by Russia, but due to the war with Ukraine, there is a delay in their preparation. The first warship will be known as INS Tushil, while the second warship will be INS Tamal.
When will India get warships?
Defense officials said an Indian Navy team recently visited a shipyard in Russia. These warships are being prepared there. The project was reviewed by the Navy team. He informed that the work is going on at a good pace and the first warship has also been launched for sea trials. Today it is used by the Russian Navy. India is expected to receive its first warship in August this year and the second warship by December.
Because of this the project was delayed
The project was delayed due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Officials said the engine was to be sourced from Ukraine for the warship being built in Russia. A team from the Indian Naval Shipyard was sent there to fit the engines on the warship. The first ship is being tested by the Russian Navy and is expected to be delivered to the Indian Navy soon. On the other hand, the work of building two warships is also underway at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) in India with Russian support. GSL is expected to launch the first warship for testing. Their delivery is said to be scheduled to be completed by mid-2026.
Let us tell you that during the tenure of former Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar, the project to build warships in Russian and Indian shipyards was approved. Work on the project was also delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two warships being built in Russia are expected to be the last Indian ships to be built in foreign shipyards as the Indian Navy promotes self-reliance.
