The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said that the global body’s Executive Director Krishnamurthy Subramanian’s comments regarding India’s GDP growth did not represent the views of the international lender, NDTV reported.

“The views are conveyed […] by Mr. Subramanian in his role as India’s representative at the IMF,” IMF spokeswoman Julie Kozack told reporters in Washington on Friday.

The spokesperson’s response came to a question about Subramanian’s comments, where he said that India’s growth rate was projected to be 8%. It was different from the projections of the international body.

Last month, Subramanian predicted that India’s economy could grow at 8% until 2047, if the country redoubled the good policies it has implemented over the past 10 years and accelerated reforms.

“So the basic idea is that with the kind of growth that India has registered in the last 10 years, if we can redouble the good policies that we have put in place over the last 10 years and accelerate the reforms, then India can grow at 8 years. per cent from now until 2047,” he said.

“We have an Executive Board. That Executive Board is made up of executive directors who represent countries or groups of countries, and they form the Executive Board of the IMF. And that is different, of course, from the work of the IMF. Staff of the IMF,” the IMF spokesperson added.
