City 42: The Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Muhammad Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, submitted his and his cabinet’s resignation to the Emir of Kuwait on Saturday.

According to Kuwait’s official news agency, the Prime Minister of Kuwait resigned after the completion of the parliamentary elections.

After new elections in Kuwait, the current government must resign before the new legislature is sworn in. The appointment of the new Prime Minister is at the discretion of the Emir of Kuwait.

If the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah wishes, he will re-appoint the resigned Prime Minister, Sheikh Muhammad Sabah Al-Salim as Prime Minister or assign this responsibility to another member of parliament. Kuwait’s new Prime Minister will form his own cabinet.

Appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah as Prime Minister

On January 4, 2024, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, appointed Sheikh Muhammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as prime minister-designate of Kuwait.

The appointment of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Muhammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah was interpreted as a major change in Kuwait’s political landscape.
