Earlier, the Left had announced candidates for 16 constituencies in the first phase. Then in the second phase, the Left Front announced the name of only one more candidate from Alipurduar.

Several deadlocks remained until Friday night in the Left Front over the settlement of seats with partner parties. Purulia seat is one of them. Senior Nepali Congress leader Mahato has already been nominated for the Purulia seat. Forward Bloc is not interested in contesting this seat. On the other hand, CPM and CPI are also pulling a war over the Basirhat seat. Bargaining between CPM and CPI continues over the Ghatal seat as well. According to leftist sources, since the polls in Purulia, Ghatal and Basirhat are in the last two phases, some more time will be available for discussion.
