Tamil Nadu: Cash of Rs 4 crore seized from three persons
A team of flying squad seized Rs 4 crore from three persons who had gone to Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The office of the head of elections in the country said that the income tax department will open a comprehensive investigation on the matter. The three people boarded a train from Agmore to Tirunelveli. A team of officials arrested them near Tambaram late at night and recovered Rs 4 crore from them. He didn’t even have a valid document to carry this money.

Odisha BJP unit vice president Laksheri Samantsinghar joins BJD
Ahead of the Lok Sabha and Odisha assembly elections, BJP state vice president Laksheri Semantsinghar on Sunday resigned from the party and joined the ruling BJD. Laksheri is the second vice-president of the Odisha unit of the BJP to resign from the party weeks before the elections. Earlier, Brigo Baksipara also left the party and joined BJD.

Other elderly candidates contesting this time from Ganjam district include Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik (77) and Manjula Swain (70). Naveen is contesting from the Hingili assembly seat for the sixth time and Manjula Swain is contesting from the Eska assembly seat.

Ramesh Chandra Chiapatanaik is the oldest BJD candidate so far in the state after the ruling party announced its candidate. BJD has so far announced candidates for 108 out of 147 assembly seats in the state and 20 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats. The party’s other candidate is 80-year-old Badrinarayan Petra, who is being re-nominated by BJD from Gasipura assembly constituency in Kunjhar district.

BJD is fielding two 80-year-old candidates in the Odisha Assembly elections
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha has fielded two 80-year-old candidates for the state assembly elections. The state assembly elections will be held along with the Lok Sabha elections. BJD fielded 80-year-old Ramesh Chandra Cheopatnaik from Brahmapur assembly seat in Ganjam district, from where he was elected for five consecutive terms till 2014, but did not contest in the last election as he was not given a ticket by the party.
