The day before, 47 female students from the same institute were hospitalized after complaining of diarrhea and dehydration. Dr. Padma M.R. of the State Inspection Unit in the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that the samples of two female students were found positive for cholera. After this incident, the Chief Secretary of the Department of Medical Education and the Chairman of the Women’s Committee visited the hospital and the hostel.

47 female students were admitted to Victoria Hospital

According to BMCRI Director Ramesh Krishna, 47 female students of the institute’s ‘Women’s Hostel’ were admitted to Victoria Hospital on Friday. They all suffered from diarrhea and dehydration. According to him, 47 female students of BMCRI hostel were admitted to Victoria Hospital after they complained of diarrhea and weakness. Stool samples of all patients were sent for testing.

The principal also said, ‘As stated in the report, two female students were found suffering from cholera.’ The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department on Friday said six cases of cholera have been reported in the state so far this year, five of which were reported in March. Against the background of reports that the scorching heat together with the lack of water raised fears of a cholera outbreak, the department clarified that all these cases are isolated.
