Street sweeps will soon begin in various Regina neighborhoods to clear leaves, as well as remove sand and debris from the roads.

Starting from Monday, the first phase of the street scanning will begin. This will include street sweeping on 47 kilometers of major boulevards and streets, such as Albert Street and Lewvan Drive, according to a release from the City of Regina.

Also, areas including the Port of Landing, General Hospital, City Center and Cathedral will be part of the first phase, and crews will work 20 hours a day, seven days a week to complete street sweeping in these areas.

Parking areas will not be marked with signs and cars left in these areas on the day of a traffic jam will receive a $120 ticket and be towed, the municipality said.

The city recommends residents download the Sweep&Plow app to see when crews will be in their neighborhood.

If you see street cleaning equipment, the city advises people to leave plenty of room for the machines, as they can create dusty conditions.

The spring street sweeping will be completed in about 10 weeks and details about the second phase will be provided by the municipality later.
