LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday dissolved the current national selection committee ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, its spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesperson said that a new selection committee will be announced soon.

“The new selection committee will make independent decisions based on merit to select the team,” added the spokesperson.

The now defunct selection committee was headed by former Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz while other members included Tauseef Ahmed, Wajahatullah Wasti, Wasim Haider.

Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar were the advisory members and Hasan Muzaffar Cheema was the managing analyst in the committee.

According to the sources, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will hold a press conference today when he is likely to announce the new selection committee.

The sources revealed that Wahab is likely to retain the position of chief selector while Abdul Razzaq is a strong candidate to become a member of the committee.

Earlier this week on Monday, sources said News Geo that the PCB has decided to empower the selection committee further as Naqvi is of the opinion that it should have full authority.

According to the sources, the selection committee will be given the responsibility of hiring a new coach and choosing the captain of the national team. It was further revealed that the empowered departments will be held accountable for their actions.
