The Congress expressed confidence in Furkan in two consecutive elections (2009 and 2014), but he could not win.

There has been very little representation of minorities from Jharkhand, especially the Muslim community, in the Lok Sabha. The Congress had given a ticket to Furkan Ansari from Godda in the 2004 elections and he reached the Lok Sabha after winning. After that, the Congress expressed confidence in Furkan in two consecutive elections (2009 and 2014), but he could not win. In the last four Lok Sabha elections, Furkan Ansari is the only Muslim candidate who made it to the Lok Sabha after the formation of Jharkhand. After him, no Muslim candidate has been able to make it to Lok Sabha from Jharkhand.
