GUWAHATI: Tezpur University is set to undergo expansion as it plans to set up six new departments aimed at promoting interdisciplinary studies and becoming a multidisciplinary institution; At the same time as the end of one year under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh.

The new departments proposed include Economics, Psychology, Political Science, Geography, Performing Arts, Vocational Studies and Skill Development. Prof. Singh, who marked his one-year milestone on April 4, emphasized the need for Tezpur University to expand its academic offerings beyond science and engineering, thereby fostering a holistic learning environment that includes the humanities and social sciences.
Each department will offer special programs tailored to equip students with the knowledge, skills and practical experience required for success in their field. To accommodate the expansion, Tazpur University is awaiting the allocation of an additional 240 dunams of land adjacent to its existing campus, provided by the state government.

Furthermore, the university has introduced seven new academic programs scheduled to start from the 2024-25 academic session. These include Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Bachelor of Chinese, M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, M.Tech in Data Science, MA in Women’s Studies, Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Ph.D. in the law
