Congress MP from Calibur, Assam, Gaurav Gogoi said during the campaign that if the number of people taking selfies with me is converted into votes, then BJP’s defeat is certain. It is worth noting that Gaurav Gogoi is contesting from Jorhat in Assam. He spoke at 12 street meetings across the district in two days. Majoli was earlier a part of the Khimpur Lok Sabha constituency, but was added to Jorhat in the delimitation conducted by the Election Commission last year. During the campaign, the residents of the area showered him with flowers and decorated him with a traditional gamocha (dupatta). Many young people took selfies with him.

During this, Gaurav Gogoi while addressing the gathering said I am overwhelmed by the love of you people. If we convert all the pictures and selfies you took with me into votes, BJP will face a crushing defeat. Attacking the BJP, he claimed that it has made many promises before every election, but hardly any of them have been fulfilled.

Residents of Jorhat (once the constituency of Gaurav’s father Tarun Gogoi) expressed more confidence in the BJP in 2014. After Gaurav Gogoi’s Kalibur seat was changed to Kaziranga as part of delimitation, the Congress fielded him to face the BJP in Jorhat, which has become a stronghold of the ruling party in the last 10 years.
