The Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi got a major relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Delhi Jal Board on the AAP government’s petition. The AAP government, in its petition, alleged that the Delhi Jal Board has not released funds to the institution that provides potable water in the national capital. In this case, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra issued this notice while hearing the case on Friday. In this notice, the court requested information about the rising amount.
The court also asked the Chief Secretary (Finance) of the Delhi government to release the funds. The court set April 10 for the next hearing in this case.
Earlier, in the same case, on April 1, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Delhi Chief Secretary (Finance) on the AAP government’s petition. In this petition, the AAP government alleged that despite the budget approval by the assembly, the officials are not releasing funds to the Delhi Jal Board. Senior lawyer Abhishek Singhvi, who is representing the AAP government in the Supreme Court, said that the AAP government is claiming, ‘My civil servants are not listening to me’. He told the court that Rs 1,927 crore has not yet been released to the Delhi Jal Board. Singhvi told the bench that if the funds were not released by March 31, the money would expire. In this regard, the committee said that the decision can be canceled even if the March 31 deadline expires.
