Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narawakar appealed to the state government to rename Alibaug to Maynaknagari in memory of Maynak Bhandari. Mainak Bhandari commanded Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s fleet and played an important role in strengthening the Maratha fleet. Alibaug, the coastal city of Mumbai, is a major tourist destination and is a municipal council under Raigar district in the state.

All India Federation Bandari Darsha

Recently the All India Bhandari Federation delegation met Rahul Narvekar. In the same meeting, the federation demanded to change the name of Alibag to Maynaknagari. Narvekar on Thursday wrote a letter to CM Eknath Shinde, in which he wrote that during the time of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, naval security and naval power were very important to prevent foreign invasion.

Who was Mainak Bandari?

Rahul Narvekar wrote that Shivaji Maharaj laid the foundations of a powerful navy, led by Maynak Bhandari in the Konkan region. Thanks to Mainak Bhandri’s leadership skills and bravery, the British were forced to retreat from Khandri Fort in Alibog. Speaker Narwakar also demanded that Mainak Bhandari’s statue should also be installed at Alibaug. The spokesperson said that this demand was raised by the delegation of the All India Federation in Bhandari, led by Navinchandra Bandivadekar. The speaker wrote in the letter that ‘this demand is justified and I appeal to the government to consider it’.
