It was 1979 and young and old alike were drawn to the chance to wander back in time when the Hampshire countryside cast a peaceful spell over the county.
Those times when the woodman, exhausted after a day in the fields, really made his weary way home, and when men like farriers, wheelwrights, thatchers and hedge makers were essential links in the chain of rural life.
Huge crowds attended various country events that year, including Hampshire Country Fair, a demonstration presented by Hampshire County Museums, Briashfield Country Fair and Botleigh Grange Country Fair.
At the annual events, a wide variety of skills and crafts were demonstrated – some for business and others for leisure.
Each of them had the atmosphere of a magnificent rural event and packed all the fun of the fair – every citizen’s dream!
