East Renfrewshire Council approves Cala Barrhead housing scheme Achi-News

The new residential-led development will be built on land earmarked for housing by the local authority near Balgraystone Road and Springfield Road.

Cala noted that he had already completed the process of purchasing the site, and said that it would “help meet the demand for high quality, sustainable housing”.

The housebuilder said the development “will also complement ongoing local regeneration initiatives, including work to upgrade and improve Ffordd Aurs”.

Cala said: “The new development will offer a diverse mix of house types including terraced, semi-detached and detached houses, and will range from two-bedroom starter homes to five-bedroom villas suitable for larger families. .”

He noted that the plans also included provision for a neighborhood retail facility “which would serve the residents of the development as well as the wider local community”.

Cala said: “The site is well placed for public transport links, which will be improved by a new train station to be located off Balgraystone Road and the creation of a new stop on the Neilston line.”

He noted that public consultations held before he presented his plans to Renfrewshire East Council had attracted more than 120 people, stating: “The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with almost seven in 10 supporting the proposals.”

Gillian Hessett, land manager at Cala Homes (West), said: “We can’t wait to get started on our plans for Barrhead. The development has been designed to suit a wide range of homeowners, from those taking their first steps on the property ladder to growing families and downsizers and it include plenty of green space and attractive landscaping.

“The site has long been intended for residential development. We are confident that our proposals will improve the local area, support the demand for homes and maintain the existing community. The construction phase of the development will also support the local economy through direct and indirect jobs.” Groundworks is expected to begin in the autumn, with the first homes to be released for sale next spring.
