The Nova Scotia government is delaying a consolidation between the Town and County of Antigonish despite municipal officials voting in favor of it.
In a statement on Thursday, John Lohr, minister of Urban Affairs and Housing, said the provincial government was delaying the consolidation after hearing from “a significant number of people who share their concerns about the bill.”
“We simply cannot ignore the voices of the residents,” said Lohr. “Therefore, after carefully considering what we heard, the measure to consolidate the Town and County of Antigonish will not proceed.
“I understand that this will be very disappointing for the people in favor of consolidation.”
