The Government has faced growing calls to halt arms sales to Israel after three British aid workers were killed in an attack by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

MPs have also been demanding that the Government publish what legal advice it has received in relation to whether Israel is in breach of international humanitarian law.

President Joe Biden has told Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu that future US support for the war in Gaza will depend on new steps to protect civilians and aid workers.

Paul O’Connor, head of bargaining at PCS, said: “The International Court of Justice considers that some of the alleged actions by Israel in Gaza could be considered within the provisions of the Genocide Convention.

“PCS agrees with that view. We believe that the UK government has an obligation to do everything in its power to prevent the attack. As he does not seem willing to do so, we are seriously considering taking legal action to prevent our members from being forced to commit illegal acts.

“We do not take such cases lightly and only do so where we have a reasonable chance of winning.”

More than 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza, most of them women and children, since the war began after a Hamas attack on October 7.

The Government said advice in relation to Israel’s behavior in Gaza was “under review”.

A government spokesman said: “We are keeping advice on Israel’s adherence to International Humanitarian Law under review and will act in accordance with that advice.

“All export license applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis against the Strategic Export Licensing Criteria.”
