Did you know there is a hidden garden in the center of Edinburgh? Photography intern Rachel Bolton pops in to see what she can find…

I visited Dunbar’s Close, one of Edinburgh’s best kept secrets – a small but beautiful garden overlooking Calton Hill and the Observatory.

Shooting mainly on my 18-130mm lens, I had a walk around the garden, taking inspiration from the interesting classical forms that the hedges and flowers created.

Although it was dark, many colors were on display from a wide variety of different plants and flowers dotting the garden.

It was nice to see that the wildlife was also enjoying the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the garden, enabling me to capture two Magpies enjoying their afternoon.

It’s always nice to find somewhere that’s abundant with plants and wildlife, even when it’s hidden, in the middle of the city.
