On Sunday, the third day of the survey of Dhar’s historic Bhojshala, which began after the order of the Indore bench of the High Court, the Archaeological Survey of India team started digging at two new places. Now excavation is being done in four places in the complex. The ASI team is taking information about how old the foundation of the Bhojshala is. The antiquity of the Bhojshala will be ascertained on the basis of its foundation.

In two places, excavations have been made to a depth of about six feet and in two other places to a depth of about three feet each. The survey will continue on Monday, the day of Dhulendi (festival of colour). On the other hand, the representative of the Muslim side has demanded the cancellation of the first day’s survey.

Investigation with modern equipment

At 8 am on Sunday morning, 15 members of the team entered the Bhojshala site. Ashish Goyal and Gopal Sharma from the Hindu side and Abdul Samad from the Muslim side were present with the team. The team had also taken modern equipment with itself for the third day of the survey. An effort was made to discover many important facts using GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar). Along with the excavation, the team has also carried out a scientific and videographic survey of the roof and dome. The survey continues even during holidays.

Let us tell you that according to Hindus, Bhojshala is a temple of Goddess Saraswati. Centuries ago, Muslims violated its sanctity and built Maulana Kamaluddin’s tomb here and British officials took the idol of Vagdevi installed there to London.

Calculate each column in nine hours of survey

The survey work took place for around nine hours on Sunday. In this, mainly Bhojshala pillars are specifically counted. These inscribed symbols are drawn in detail. The team members also pay special attention to the shape of these pillars. Its architectural style and period will be ascertained from the shape, size etc. of the pillars. This will clarify the situation regarding the antiquity of Bhojshala.

Protection of small and special stones

Through GPR, it is discovered whether the stone heritage is buried underground in the Bhojshala building. Two pits measuring six by six have been dug since Saturday. Nothing has been found in these yet. However, small and special stones that come out of it are also kept for investigation. For the confidentiality of the survey, only departmental employees are kept in the inner circle. Outsourced workers will not be involved in excavation etc.

banquet hall The small signs and marks on the walls, pillars etc. are cleaned with the help of special chemicals for clarity. So far, photography and videography of around 75 signs have been done.

The Muslim side insists that anything after 2003 should not be included in the survey.

Abdul Samad Khan from the Muslim side said that whatever things have been done after 2003 should not be included in the survey. There are three survey teams working inside, while I am alone on behalf of the committee. We want the team to inspect one place at a time. For this reason, an objection has been submitted by posting the department demanding that the first day’s survey be cancelled. On the other hand, representatives of the Hindu side have said that the opposition of the Muslim side is baseless and misleading.
