The Haryana Election Results are out today and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has turned the Exit Polls upside down. For the third time in a row, the BJP has won an unprecedented victory. Currently, BJP has crossed the magic number of 46 seats and is on the way to win more constituencies.

It was predicted that the Congress would be victorious this time. However, the BJP is unfazed and is looking to win this time with more seats than its victory in 2019. In the last Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 seats and formed the government in an alliance with the Jananayak Party Janata (JJP). However, it has now risen to power independently.

Here are five factors that led to BJP’s clear majority…

1. Aggregation of non-Jata votes

BJP won only 4 seats in 2014 and has now won 47+ seats. It is clear that BJP’s strategy has worked behind this unprecedented victory. This time BJP has tried a new experiment and won. Contrary to traditional expectations, the BJP had planned. Because Jat community is 40% in this state. But the Congress party had already succeeded in attracting that community, so the BJP set eyes on the casteless community, and it has also seen victory.

The Congress has largely succeeded in attracting the Jat community to the party. However, he failed to win over the casteless communities. BJP has won other communities apart from Jat community. He is said to have attracted the votes of Punjabis, OBCs, Ahirs, Brahmins, Rajputs and Banias in particular.

BJP is leading in several seats in Punjabi-dominated GT Road region, Ahir-dominated Ahirwal region and Gujjar-dominated Faridabad.

BJP leaders in the state are from the non-Jat community. Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is from Punjabi community and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is from Saini OBC community. The Jat community raised its voice against the BJP during the election campaign and this is due to the codification of the non-Jat communities in favor of the BJP.

The BJP was able to target Scheduled Caste (SC) voters, particularly through women’s self-help groups in villages, attracting ‘millionaire drone didis’, usually from Dalit families.

2. Selection of candidates from Congress, BJP in Haryana

While Congress leaders like Bhupinder Hooda fielded their own candidates, the BJP adopted a different approach. As there was a wave against the era, the BJP chose 60 new faces to oppose it. The party found former CM Khattar arrogant and brought Nayab Singh Saini to the fore. In contrast, the Congress gave tickets to 17 candidates who lost earlier, including state president Uday Bhan, in the re-election. It hurt the Congress and helped the BJP win.

3. Pay money directly to developments and beneficiaries

BJP started its campaign before Congress. He intensified his campaign in January itself by going around villages with his “Modi Ki Guarantee” vans. This time highlighting the government’s plans, the pehachan of the villagers allowed them to correct the problems in the papers. He emphasized to the people the government’s achievement of direct deposit of money (DBT) to the beneficiaries. Haryana claims to be the first in the country to ensure direct payments to beneficiary accounts.

After that, even when the Election Code of Conduct came into force, the welfare statements were implemented. This attracted more people.

Another focal point was development in the GT road sectors stretching from Ambala to Delhi. The Government has carried out development work in six regions and 25 sectors. As a result, the voters have given their valuable votes in the basket of the BJP. The BJP emphasized that steps would be taken to prevent criminal acts from taking place.

4. The BJP is benefiting from a number of independent candidates

The Congress and the AAP had fought the Lok Sabha elections together, but in this election they fought separately. The electoral row was further fought by the Bharatiya Rashtriya Lok Dal, which was affiliated with the Bahujan Samaj Party, and the JJP, which had joined the Azad Samaj Party. A large number of independent candidates also joined the fray. All of them have divided the anti-BJP votes and led to the defeat of the Congress in many constituencies.

5. Electoral arena and use of technology

Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah directly campaigned in many rallies. BJP’s election message was very different from Congress’s election message. Rahul Gandhi focused on farmers and pitted them against industrialists like Ambani and Adani. His socialist rhetoric failed to appeal to the business community and mobile voters. But BJP managed to attract mobile phone users.
