A PC was conducted on Tuesday to clear the misconceptions regarding prepaid meters in Nalanda district. District Magistrate Shashank Subhankar highlighted the many benefits of smart meters in the new NIC meeting hall located in the Assembly.

The district court stated that the installation of smart meters is done completely free of charge. Consumers will also get a cashback of up to 3 percent on top-up. This includes 1.5 percent on prepaid, 1 percent for online top-up and a special 0.5 percent smart meter benefit.
Smart meters will completely eliminate the possibility of human error in electricity bills. A meter reader will not be required as the data will be automatically delivered to the billing server. Consumers will be able to receive information about their electricity consumption in real time.

Consumers were also given relief regarding old payments. It is possible to pay the payment before installing a smart meter in installments. Apart from this, a provision was also made for interest on an early deposit. Interest ranging from 6.75 to 7.25 percent will be available on deposits of Rs 2000 or more.
The district court said that out of 875 government offices in Nalanda district, smart meters have already been installed in 653. This work will be completed in the remaining offices by October 15, 2024.

For the convenience of consumers, there will be special camps to correct complaints every week on Tuesdays and Fridays. Test meters will also be installed at certain locations to remove any doubt.
