He used to beat them up physically on the pretext of giving them medicine. The accused had formed several groups of five or six women each, and he used to get different jobs in the ashram from them. During this period he used to touch her private parts on some pretext or the other. He used to kiss them too.

Some female students who were molested by the accused said that Yogesh Patel kept several types of medicine in his room. Whenever any student had a cold or fever, he himself used to give them medicine. On the pretext of giving them medicine, he used to call them to his room and beat them physically.

The department team also told the female students that Yogesh Patel would often watch them sleep by shining a torch through the window at night. There is no fan-cooler arrangement in the ashram. Because of this, some women slept in less clothing in the summer. Because of this action by the accused, she was put in an embarrassing situation.

Once the student girl even complained about this to the house mother. When the mother of the house asked the Headmaster Yogesh Patel about this, he replied that the welfare of the girls is my responsibility. That is why I inspect them at night.

Accused Yogesh Patel was appointed as a teacher in this ashram in the year 2003. He became the principal of the school in the year 2013. After the actions of the accused came to light, it is feared that the case of physical interference among girls- students has been happening for a long time. Because of this, the department is now preparing to question some female students who have dropped out of school.

But, now our team has gained confidence in them. Because of this, female students express their problems openly. We are currently preparing a definitive report. The headteacher will soon be presented in court and taken on remand. At present, we are recording the statements of the female students and taking steps for their medical examination.

At the same time, accused Yogesh Patel has been given a room to stay in the Ashram School itself. There are two doors in this room, one at the front and one at the back of the room. A block for women’s bathing was made at a distance of about 200 steps from the back door of the room. That is why whenever the girls went to have a bath in the block, the principal used to see them.

However, the rest of the ashram staff do not live in the ashram. Only Yogesh Patel lived in the ashram. His family lives in Navsari, where he goes for a day or two every two-three months. When questioning the girls, no evidence of misconduct by any other member of the school’s staff came to light.

In 2001, a case of rape was registered against another teacher from the same ashram. After this matter which has shamed the world of education came to light, it was also revealed that this ashram school had also come into controversy in the year 2001. Another teacher from the same ashram, Gambhir Singh, raped a 15-year-old student who was studying in class 7 here. However, the girl did not fear any threat from the teacher. She told this to her mother and an FIR was lodged against the accused on 10 January 2001. In this way the accused ended up behind the bars.
