Srinagar: Assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time as a union territory. The total vote in the first assembly election was 63.45 percent. The outcome of this 90-seat gathering could be triangular according to various booth return surveys. Although no party will get a single majority, Umar Abdullah’s National Conference is likely to get the highest number of seats.

The India Today-CVoter poll suggests that the National Conference and Congress could win between 40 and 48 seats out of the 90 assembly seats. Also BJP can get 27 to 32 seats. On the other hand, Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP may get 6 to 12 seats. Other parties can get 6 to 11 seats.

According to Bhaskar Reporters poll, 35 to 40 seats in Jammu and Kashmir are National Conference and Congress. BJP can get 20 to 25 seats. Also PDP can get only 4 to 7 seats. Other parties can get 12 to 18 seats.

Incidentally, among the 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Udhampur had the highest vote share of 76.09 percent. In 2019, the central government abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution, after which Jammu and Kashmir lost its special powers and became a Union Territory. This is the first election in Jammu and Kashmir.
