The monsoon season is expected to continue in the Northeast, especially Guwahati, till October 10, threatening to dampen the spirit of the Durga Puja.

According to the Weather Forecasting Agency, light to moderate rains will occur till October 8, while October 9 and 10 will witness heavy rain and thunderstorms in parts of Assam and Guwahati.

The rain added to the monumental troubles of the city’s residents and travelers alike – be it the dismal road conditions, falling water or ongoing construction.

Speaking to GPlus, Anurag Bora, a resident of Rajar, said, “You have seen the pathetic condition of the road in Rajar which makes it difficult for the commuters who have to travel every day to their work or business. And on top of that the incessant rain makes the situation worse, even affecting the daily traffic.”

“However, I don’t understand why these road construction projects across the city are being carried out just before the monsoon season? Who is to blame for this situation in our entire region and the rest of Guwahati,” he added.

Speaking to GPlus, a traffic official in Guwahati said, “As with the incessant rain, sometimes it is very difficult to manage the traffic. We are hoping for a little break from the rain as the puja is also just around the corner.”

The weather, though comfortable for the city dwellers being a respite from the heat, is still on the way to celebrate the festivities and festivities of Durga Puja. Many artisans had to cover their idols with plastic wraps as this affected the workflow of the idol making process. For now, artisans and citizens alike are waiting with bated breath for the humid weather to subside as it may affect the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations in the long run.

Even the construction of pooja pandals has been slowed down in the given situation.

Residents also fear the weather playing sports spoiling their Durga Puja plans. Only time will tell, what it entails!
