NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will let Pakistan attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

It has been learned that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit will be held in Pakistan’s Islamabad on October 15 and 16, in which Indian Foreign Minister S Jai Shankar will participate.

Earlier, Pakistan had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the SCO summit. But no Indian foreign minister has visited Pakistan since December 2015. The late former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visited Islamabad in 2015 to attend the Afghanistan Security Conference.

But now after exactly 9 years, a minister from India is going to visit Pakistan. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit will be held in Islamabad Pakistan on October 15 and 16, and the visit has become very significant as the Foreign Minister of India will attend the meeting.

The SCO, which includes India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, is an influential economic and security organization that has emerged as one of the largest trans-regional international organizations.

As part of this important regional group, Pakistan and India can host a summit. India hosted the SCO summit last year, which was held in virtual mode. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif participated in this through video link.

Pakistan holds the rotating chairmanship of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Therefore, Pakistan will host a two-day SCO Heads of Government meeting in October.
