A POCSO court in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl. POCSO court judge Abhilash Snapati convicted Prashant Bagar, a resident of a village in Jamankira police station area in the district, said special prosecutor Santosh Panda. According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 25, 2022, when the deceased girl went to defecate in the field in her village. The accused committed the crime by forcibly taking her away. Later, the accused beheaded the girl with an ax and returned to the village with the severed head.
