India broke many records on the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur. After two rain-soaked days, India came out firing – first bowling Bangladesh out for 233, then making a historic assault with the bat.

India’s two star batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Yashshwi Jaiswal, hit 51 off 18 balls to bring up a new record fifty for the Test team. This overturned England’s previous record of fifty in 26 balls against the West Indies this year.

Jaiswal then hit a hat-trick of boundaries in the first over to set the tone, followed by Rohit’s maximum over long on in the second. The Indian skipper hit another maximum to take his strike rate past 600. By the third over, Jaiswal’s explosive batting – with towering sixes and a flurry of boundaries – had cemented India’s place in the record books.

Jaiswal continued to pound the attack, reaching his half-century after just 31 balls. Despite losing Rohit for 4, he was in high spirits, and India raced to 100 in 61 balls (10.1 overs). India broke their previous record of fastest Test century against West Indies.

However, there was not even a slight let-up in the carnage as Pant, Gill and Kohli managed to reach 150 in just 18.3 overs for the fastest 150 in Test history. The Indians crossed 200 by the 29th over, breaking Australia’s previous record against Pakistan in Sydney in 2017.
