Assam: Kamrup (M) principal asks schools to ask students for weapons Achi-News

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metro District Administration has directed all government, provincial and private schools in the district to conduct daily checks of students’ bags and pockets as a precautionary measure after the death of a student in a school recently.

"Following the fatal incident that took place in a school in a nearby district, it has been decided by the undersigned that all Government/Provincial/Private schools operating under Kamrup Metro District should check the satchels and pockets of all students as per the class of concern. The teacher before the start of the class every day and must verify if the students are in possession of weapons/weapons/sharp objects or any poisonous product like liquid, gutka, tobacco, cigarette etc. or any other objectionable item. If found, it should be stopped immediately and their parents should be notified immediately and a proper copy of the information should be sent to the undersigned. This matter should be taken seriously and strict maintenance should be observed in all Kamrup Metro schools without malfunctions on a daily basis," The said notice (sic).

A Grade 9 student from Padumpuchori School in Darang District was killed by a classmate following an altercation on the school grounds earlier this week.

The victim, identified as Babesh Deka, died from injuries sustained during the confrontation.

According to Drang, Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal, the incident came to light after the school principal alerted the local authorities.

Bahash was seriously injured and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the treating doctors.

In another incident, a school student in Jorhat was stabbed by another student.
