Kolkata: Nanhe Fariste is a major initiative of the RPF. The RPF and Eastern Railway field staff are very vigilant and determined to bring back countless missing children to their mother’s arms.

In one such case, Priya Roy (name changed), a 15-year-old girl from Sonarpur, did not return from school on September 10, 2024, after an argument with her mother. She was last seen wearing a school uniform near the station. His parents contacted friends and neighbors to search for him and finally reached Sonarpur station with the help of the station in-charge and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Imagine the anxiety, the sleepless nights, those moments of sitting in front of the phone waiting for your beloved daughter. A home that was once full of laughter and joy, when a loved one goes missing, the silence of that house becomes unbearable. Fear of the unknown, longing to have her back, and unanswered questions engulfing every waking moment. It’s a nightmare no family ever wants to deal with.

Just like the heartbreaking story of the Oscar-nominated film ‘Lapata Ladies’, which sheds light on a family’s fears and anxiety of disappearances, real life events like this have to be dealt with by many families. Vulnerable and helpless children and young people are often separated from their families due to unfortunate circumstances or nefarious purposes such as human trafficking. The scale of this emotional distress is immeasurable, which has a huge impact on the family.

After gathering information from Priya’s family, the RPF started, collecting the girl’s details and photos and circulating them in all zones of Indian Railways and Eastern Railway local networks and WhatsApp groups. Thanks to the efficient arrangement of the Eastern Railway RPF team, Priya was found at Bali station at 4:30 the next morning. When Priya runs into trouble buying tickets to Delhi, the ticket booking clerk becomes suspicious. The booking clerk on duty informed the RPF team and they verified the girl’s identity and handed her over to the family following legal procedures. The family became very grateful to the Eastern Railway.

This successful rescue operation is a testament to the dedication and efficient information sharing network of the RPF. Priya’s moment of reuniting with her family was emotional, filled with tears of relief and gratitude. Priya’s rescue was the result of the tireless efforts of the railway security forces and Eastern railway workers, who not only saved her, but also saved her from a dire fate. Such rescue operations are part of the day-to-day work of the Railway Protection Force of Eastern Railway.

Up to August this year, the Eastern Railway Protection Force (RPF) has rescued a total of 658 minors and reunited them with their families. So far the Eastern Railway RPF company has rescued a total of 95 minors including 7 children from traffickers. This effort demonstrates the RPF’s commitment to the protection and safe return of vulnerable people.
