According to the police, the incident took place around 2:30 am on September 22, when jeweler Arun Sunny along with his girlfriend Rosie Thomas were taking finished jewelery from Coimbatore to Thrissur in a car. When they reached Kalidukko, where the construction of the metro was going on, three SUVs stopped Arun’s car. After that many people got out of the car and threatened them and demanded to hand over the gold. When Arun hesitated, the rioters pulled him out of the car and forced him into one of their vehicles. Meanwhile, Arun’s friend is taken away in another car.

Police said a complaint was received on Wednesday and an FIR was registered under various sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS). According to the FIR, the victim is businessman Arun Sani, a resident of Kizhakkota, Thrissur, and his friend Rosie Thomas Foote.

Arun was also beaten by the robbers to know about the gold. They also threatened to kill him, and at that he was frightened and told where the gold was kept. After looting gold worth Rs 1.84 crore, the robbers left Arun on the roadside in Puthur and his friend in Marathakara. After a search, the police found Arun’s car abandoned in Vaniampara, but the gold was missing.
