Efforts are being made by North East Frontier Railway to ensure comfortable, hassle-free travel and better service to genuine passengers.
The raids are conducted against ticketless and irregular passengers Moreover, such raids are conducted to prevent any kind of activities that cause inconvenience to the legitimate passengers.
It may be mentioned here that during the period from April 2024 to September 22, 2024, 396101 ticketless/irregular ticket passengers were identified, from which around Rs.34.06 crores were collected as fares and fines.
Between April 2023 and September 22, 394076 offenders have been identified. 33.78 crore was also won by them.
Comparatively, 0.51 per cent more cases were found this year than last year. Offenders earn 0.82 per cent more in fines and rents.
Between April and August of the current financial year 2024-25, 30 surprise raids were carried out against passengers who were authorized to travel without valid travel tickets with the help of Railway Magistrates.
During this campaign, the Magistrate registered a case against 167 people Fines were collected from 161 people for not complying with the Railways Act.
The total collected through three magistrates is Tk 10.58 crore. It is stated that traveling without a valid ticket or beyond the permitted distance may result in additional duties and fares.
If any passenger fails or refuses to pay the amount, he will be in default and will be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Railways Act, 1989.
To avoid inconvenience, North East Frontier Railway has requested common people to travel with appropriate and valid tickets and valid identity cards.
Now passengers from one end of the country to the other can buy unreserved tickets from their smartphones through the Unreserved Ticket System (UTS) mobile application. The UTS application can be downloaded from the Android and Apple app stores.
