Mumbai: Badlapur sexual assault accused death in police custody has sparked political controversy. Akshay Shinde’s family claims an “encounter”. The incident took place near Mumbra Bypass while the accused was being taken from Taloja jail to Badlapur on Monday. Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dambre has already formed an investigation committee with 8 members to investigate the incident. The committee consists of two Deputy Commissioners of Police, two Assistant Commissioners of Police and two Inspectors of Police. The committee is headed by Additional Commissioner of Police Punjab Rao Ugle.

Akshay Shinde’s body was brought to JJ Hospital for post-mortem after the incident. That’s when the accused’s mother and uncle pointed fingers at the police. They alleged that Akshay met with the connivance of the Badlapur school and police. By the way, Akshay was the cleaner of Badlapur school. He was accused of sexually harassing two students. Akshay’s father Anna Shinde says that there should be a proper investigation into this murder.

Akshay’s mother and uncle expressed anger over the police statement in the media. According to them, the allegation of taking away the police gun is false. Not only this, they also claim that Akshay was beaten and demanded money while in police custody. Akshay’s mother said, “My son was killed by the police. Action should also be taken against the school authorities.” He added, “The boy was afraid of breaking bets. I don’t believe he would shoot the police.”

According to the police, while approaching the car, Akshay Shinde suddenly grabbed a policeman’s gun and opened fire. An assistant police inspector was seriously injured. Akshay was shot back by a policeman. After that Akshay was taken to Civil Hospital Kalwa where the doctors declared him brought dead. In the words of Akshay’s mother, “He went to school in the morning. He doesn’t know what happened there. He doesn’t even know how to drive, how to shoot? Those who killed my son must be punished. We want justice.”

Regarding the incident, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “Akshay was accused of sexual harassment by his ex-wife. He was being taken to investigate that case. While going to the car, Akshay grabbed a policeman’s gun and opened fire. That’s when the police retaliated in self-defense.” Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiya alleged attempts to destroy evidence. He threw a bunch of questions at the government. Vijay said, “Akshay’s hands were open during the journey? How could the police be so careless? Demand a judicial inquiry.
