Equipment installed by Municipal Corporation.

The Municipal Corporation’s project to dispose of C&D (Construction and Demolition Waste) waste in the city of Faridabad, Haryana, is failing. Even after six years, the officials of the Municipal Corporation have not been able to carry out the orders of the NGT. If Municipal Corporation SDO Surendra Khattar agrees, then NGT orders

.

It was planned to issue a new tender

The Municipal Corporation had planned to blacklist the contractor and issue a fresh tender. Because of this the pace of the work was still very slow. However, C&D Waste’s work has been transferred to the old contractor. Local resident Gaurav and Dinesh Nagar, who live in Sainik Colony, said that due to lack of proper arrangement for C&D waste in the city, heaps of debris can be seen on the roadside green belt.

Hundreds of tons of construction debris are left in the open.

Hundreds of tons of construction waste or debris are dumped in the open every month in the city and there is no agency to keep track of it. This is a huge threat to the environment and passengers. According to information received from the corporation officials, less than 10 percent of the construction and demolition material reaches the factory set up near Rivajpur village here.

A small scale plant was established

Where three years ago a small sized plant was established on about five acres of land allotted by the Municipal Corporation. This plant was only started a few months ago. C&D Waste’s work here is in the primary stage as only grinding and crushing of the waste is done here. No by-products are produced from it.

60 percent processed material must be purchased

The main reason why the work is not progressing is that the Municipal Corporation, as per the contract, has to purchase 60 percent of the processed material from the contractor, which the Corporation is not purchased so far. On the related issue, the villagers of Riwajpur said that the C&D waste machines installed near the village have become the only cause of air and noise pollution, because only garbage grinding is done here.

Although the Municipal Corporation has proposed four units, no big factory has been set up in the city.
