A bottle left behind by archaeologists around 200 years ago has been discovered in a major dig. Yes, a group of archaeologists found a rare glass bottle at an excavation site in Normandy, France earlier this week as part of an archaeological dig in northern France.

The message was written by the archaeologist PJ Ferret, who wrote about excavations on the site of Cite de Limes in January 1825. Guillaume Blondel, head of the Archaeological Service, spoke about the discovery. “This glass bottle appears to be a bottle used by women to tie scented salt around their necks.
That moment of seeing the bottle with the message was truly amazing. We knew there had been excavations here in the past, but finding this message from 200 years ago was a complete surprise,” he said. “Sometimes you see carpenters leave time capsules like this when building houses. But this is very rare in archaeology.
“The Gaulish village mentioned in the charter is a place of great importance,” said Blondel, who leads the archaeological service for the town of Eu.
The oldest letter
And yet years old letters found in this way have written a Guinness World Record. The oldest message in a bottle ever found is 131 years and 223 days old, Guinness World Records said in a statement.
