Guwahati: Rishabh Pant has equaled former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the few centuries scored in Test cricket by an Indian wicketkeeper. He made a remarkable comeback after 637 days, scoring his sixth Test century during India’s first match against Bangladesh.

Pant’s impressive knock reached a critical juncture after a slight collapse from the top order in India’s second innings. Going into the 20th over, after Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the 17th over, India found themselves in a tricky position despite a 227-run first-innings lead. With captain Rohit Sharma and Yashaswi Jaiswal both unable to turn the tide, Pant’s innings proved vital to India’s stability.
Partnered with Shubman Gill, Pant navigated through a tense Day 2, showing maturity in thwarting Bangladesh’s bowling attack. On the third day, Pant adopted an unusually cautious approach in the early stages, focusing on preserving his wicket.
