GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court of India’s YouTube channel was hacked on September 20, 2024, as it was currently showing videos promoting XRP, a cryptocurrency developed by Ripple Labs.

The hacked channel is live streaming a video titled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds to $2B SEC Fine! XRP Price Forecast,” featuring Ripple’s CEO.

The Supreme Court has been using YouTube to stream hearings for years, particularly of Constitution Bench cases and matters of public interest. Recently, the hearing of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case was also watched live on the platform. Hackers have now made previous videos private.

Scammers targeting high-profile video channels to promote cryptocurrencies have become common in recent years. Ripple has also previously sued YouTube for failing to curb such scams.

Supreme Court officials are currently investigating the breach, while efforts are being made to restore the channel’s original content and security.
