The Supreme Court postponed the hearing on the petition of the former Union Minister, Maneka Gandhi, to September 30. Maneka Gandhi challenged the election of SP MP Ram Bhoyal Nishad from Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat. Ram Bhoyal Nishad defeated Maneka Gandhi from Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. Maneka Gandhi claims there are 12 criminal cases pending against Ram Boyal Nishad, but she has given information about only eight cases in her election affidavit. Manaka Gandhi accused Nishad of concealing his criminal history and providing false information in the affidavit.

Maneka Gandhi had earlier filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court in this regard, but the High Court dismissed the petition on the grounds that according to the rules of the Representation of the People Act, the petition must be filed within 45 days after the elections. But it didn’t happen. In such a situation, the High Court dismissed the petition. After that Maneka Gandhi moved the Supreme Court. Maneka Gandhi also challenged the rule of 45 days time limit to challenge the election in the Supreme Court.
