Karwar: That’s a mysterious area called Shula’s Well! 30-40 years ago, people were afraid to even walk in that place on the Kumata-Ankola highway! Hero stones have been found in this area covered in mud and thorn bushes.

Vinay Gunaga, a priest from Ghatabira Temple in Bargi, and his team have discovered these veeragals, the age of these vets is still uncertain. Vinay Gunaga explains about this Veeragallu and this website, “It is a folklore that this was a place of human sacrifice in the past. Balibeera, Shuladabeera, God’s Ghatabira are a little far from this place,” he said.

A tiger’s voice was heard from a well
There is a legend that human sacrifices took place in Shula Bavi long ago, 400-500 years ago. Also, the ashes of the tiger god lay in the well of this spike. Local people say that a tiger’s voice could be heard from that well.

The heroic heroes were buried in the well
Vinay Gunaga, Santhosh Gunaga, Vikram Gunaga discovered a 2 feet high 20 edge jatiga stone at this site which was covered in one of the JCB works 6 years ago. He also discovered one of the four levels of heroes. The fourth from the bottom has a hero fighting with Maddane, the third is a figure of a warrior on horseback, the 2nd stage has five heroes, and the 1st stage has five heroes seated. The era of these heroes and the information about the heroes there is not yet known.

Belonging to Ankola are Shulada Bavi Bargi and Baligadde, both sites are at a distance of 2-3 kilometers from Ghatabira Bargi shrine respectively. It is believed that these were sacrificial fields

This place had fallen into disrepair without worship for nearly a year. The reason is that people used not to go near the Shula well because they felt the roar of a tiger near the well. But six years ago there was a situation where the Shula well was closed. Before that, only a small stone figure was visible, so brothers Vinay Gunagara and Vinay Gunaga searched the area for an hour and found this heroic stone inscription and the Jatiga stone.
