GUWAHATI: Olympic medalist and boxing icon Lovlina Borgohain won the Best Sportswoman of the Year award at the OIL-ASJA Sports Awards, hosted by the Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) on Sunday, September 15 in Guwahati.

The event, held at the Landmark Hotel, recognized outstanding athletes and sportspersons from Assam for their contribution and achievements in the past year.
Burgohain, who received the award from Assam’s tourism minister Jayanta Malvaroa, expressed her gratitude on social media. She wrote, “Heartfelt thanks to the Assam Sports Journalists Association for giving me the Sportsman of the Year Award. I am truly humbled by the immense support and love I have received from you. It is for you that I am recognized by all who I am and also contribute to the betterment of the environment of true sports culture through Their unconditional dedication to true journalism. I am honored to receive this prestigious award through Hon’ble Minister Shri Jayantha Sir.”
In addition to Burghain, several athletes from different sports won during the ceremony. Veteran sports journalist Premadhar Sarma was also awarded the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) medal, in recognition of his contribution to sports journalism.
