New Delhi (September 16): Yesterday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation as CM, creating a political storm in the national capital, Delhi. He has created a sensation in the political circle and has announced that he will resign from the position of Prime Minister in the next two days. Along with this he made another surprising announcement. He said he would not succeed his former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who was released from jail a month ago.

After the resignation announcement, Kejriwal insisted that the Delhi assembly elections be held in November along with the Maharashtra assembly elections. Kejriwal said that both would seek bail and prove their innocence in the Delhi Tax Policy case. It is worth noting that Kejriwal, who was in jail for almost six months in this case, was released from Tihar jail on Friday.

Why did Kejriwal resign?

Delhi CM Kejriwal’s decision to resign is being considered as a result of two constraints placed on the elected government of Delhi. One is the restrictions imposed by the government on the amendment of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act, which gives more powers to the lieutenant governor, especially over the bureaucracy.

Secondly, as per the bail conditions imposed on Kejriwal, he cannot go to the Delhi Secretariat or his office and can only sign documents to be endorsed or approved by the Lieutenant Governor. It is like compulsion for Kejriwal. In such a situation, he had no choice but to resign.

What is on Delhi CM’s mind?

A senior AAP leader said, “It was important to resign after getting bail, not before. Because doing so is a sign of weakness. Now, the CM is out and can continue in his role. But he has decided to do so of his own free will without any external pressure. The workers are down, but it is true that repeated attacks on us have left us in a vulnerable position. “Senior leaders will focus on dispelling rumors that have been spread in his absence and reconnecting with voters,” he said.
