80 percent of farmers in India have suffered crop loss due to adverse climate events in the last five years. The report claims that there has been a delay in the sowing of many types of crops in many countries.

This information was revealed in a report published on Tuesday by the Forum of Enterprises for Equitable Development (FEED). The Development Intelligence Unit (DIU) also contributed to the survey, based on 6,615 farmers in 21 countries. The report does not include the effect of temperature variation. The findings showed that 41 percent of crop loss cases were due to drought, 32 percent to irregular rain and 24 percent to early withdrawal or late arrival of monsoon.

According to the report, about 43% of the farmers questioned lost at least half of their standing crop. Rice, vegetables and legumes were particularly affected by the excessive rain. This caused particular damage to plants that had just been planted in rice fields in the northern countries. On the contrary, less rains affected Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Sowing of various crops like rice, maize, cotton, soybean, groundnut and pulses has been delayed in states like Bengal.
