In the division level chess competition, two students from Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district brought glory to the district. The competition was organized for the first time by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department and the Surguja Chess Association. A total of 300 athletes from different categories from 6 districts participated in the division competition.

In the competition, 5-year-old Marigank Sharma of Class 1 of DAV Chirmiri School won the title of the youngest player in the tournament. Marigank Sharma secured the third position in the under-9 boys category. Marigank is the son of Mayank Sharma and Smriti Sharma, who work as senior managers at Chirmiri Open Cast Mines.

Students of Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur brought glory to the district in chess competition.

Also achieved third place in the under 15 category

Shreyanesh Mishra, a class 8 student of DAV School, Chirmiri also brought glory to the region by securing the third position in the under-15 boys category. Shreyanesh is the son of Dr. Sumit Mishra who works at Chirmiri Regional Hospital.

Competitions are organized in four different age groups

More than 150 participants participated in the boys category in this competition held at Ambikpur. The competition was attended by participants from Surguja district including Jashpur, Balrampur, Surajpur, Korea, Manendragarh from Surguja division. Apart from prizes of 40 thousand rupees, many prizes were awarded in this competition which was organized in four different age groups.
