New Delhi: In the 18th Lok Sabha, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi created a controversy by shouting pro-Palestinian slogans during the swearing-in ceremony. Owaisi, who took oath as an MP in the Lok Sabha, raised the slogan Jai Palestine in support of Palestine. There was uproar inside and outside Parliament after Hyderabad MP Owaisi Jai raised a Palestinian slogan.

According to the information received so far, when Asaduddin Owaisi said Jai Palestine in his oath, Union Minister and BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje expressed opposition to it. After this, Lok Sabha Speaker Radha Mohan Singh directed Asaduddin Owaisi to remove this statement from the record. However, the video of Owaisi’s statement has now gone viral.

Who is this Owaisi?

Owaisi is the Member of Parliament from Hyderabad Constituency. In this Lok Sabha election, Owaisi secured 6,61,981 votes while BJP’s rival candidate Madhavi Lata secured 3,23,894 votes. Owaisi has been victorious from Hyderabad constituency since 2004. In 2019, he defeated BJP’s J Bhagwant Rao by 2.82 lakh votes. Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency has traditionally been the stronghold of AIMIM. AIMIM has maintained a tight grip on the Muslim-majority Hyderabad constituency since 1984.
