The issue of the OBC movement has again come up for discussion in Maharashtra. Let us tell you that two activists named Laxman Hek and Navnat Wajamara are on hunger strike in the village of Vadigodri in Jalana District since June 13. During this period, Manoj Jaranj, the architect of the Maratha Reserve, was accused of killing Maratha youth because of the confusion he spread. The two workers also accused Maharashtra Chief Minister Akanath Shind of ignoring the strike. The two workers are seeking an assurance from the government that the OBC quota will not be affected in view of the demand for Martha reservation.

Do not affect the OBC quota – Laxman Hek

The agitators who are on an indefinite hunger strike are protesting against Manoj Jaranj’s demand to implement this draft notification. In it, Kunbi was also recognized as ‘Rishi Suyar’ (blood relatives) of the members of the Maratha community. Let us tell you that Kunbi, an agricultural group, falls under the OBC category, and Manoj Jaranj demands that all Marathas be issued Kunbi certificates, so that they can be eligible for government jobs and quota in education.

“Comparison of Marathas with OBC Community”

During this, Laxman Hek said that the Maratha community may be economically disadvantaged, but it is not socially backward. He also said that the reservation criteria refer to those who are socially backward. During this he suggested that the Marathas continue with the government in their economic development plans. Laxman Hek claimed that Jarange is creating confusion due to which Maratha youths are committing suicide due to reservation. Jarangay equates Marathas with the OBC community. Let us tell you that the OBC workers are demanding that the ‘Rishi Soyar’ draft be cancelled.

“The prime minister was also accused of neglect”

During this period, OBC activist Laxman Hek accused Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of ignoring his movement and the Chief Minister closed his eyes and ears regarding our movement. He said that Custodian Minister Atul Sawa, Rajya Sabha member Bhagwat Karad and new MP from Aurangabad Sandiphan Bhumir met him personally on Monday and not as government representatives. Jelna Deputy Commissioner Dr Shri Krishna Panchal met him on Wednesday night, but he too remained silent on the government’s attitude towards his agitation.

Deputy Commissioner Jelena rejected the claims

While rejecting the allegation, Deputy Commissioner Jalana told reporters that Minister Atul Sawa had gone to meet the OBC workers who were fasting on behalf of the Chief Minister. According to him, the condition of the two hunger strikers is getting worse and he tried to convince them for treatment. According to him, currently a team of doctors and an ambulance has been deployed at the protest site. During this, the deputy commissioner also appealed to the OBC members who blocked the roads in the district to demonstrate peacefully and democratically.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi gave support

However, during this period, Venchit Bhujan Agadi chief Prakash Ambedkar met Laxman Hek and Navanath Waghmare in Vadigodri village and extended his support. Ambedkar said that the government failed to solve the problems of Marathas and OBCs. He said it could lead to conflict between OBC and Maratha communities. No Maratha leader came to speak on the issue of OBC movement. They are just watching. Maratha leaders should come and try to pacify both communities. Let us inform that Manoj Jaranj said on Wednesday that the state government may support certain movements to avoid addressing the demand of Maratha quota under OBC category.
