Eight people suffocate to death in a refrigerated truck in China
Beijing: Eight people were found inside a refrigerated truck in central China’s Henan Province, where they are said to have suffocated, Chinese media reported today (Monday).
The truck driver found the eight people in the trunk of his vehicle near a highway exit about 140 kilometers south of the provincial capital, Zhengzhou, and called emergency services, according to the local government. All eight were unconscious when they were found.
Attempts to revive them were unsuccessful, and they were pronounced dead early Sunday morning.
The authorities have started investigating the incident, including regarding the driver of the vehicle.
Additional details, as well as the identity of the “illegal passengers”, as the authorities described them, initially remained unclear.
