Sirmaur. A video of Himachal Pradesh Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan is going viral on social media where he is seen trying to douse a forest fire. He was said to have arrived in the area for a two-day stay and was going to listen to public problems. In the meantime, information was received according to which a fire is spreading in the forest surrounding the village of Shilai. On this he entered the forest with the villagers to put out the fire. There was a huge loss to the wealth of the forest due to the fire incident in the area.
So far this year there have been 1318 fire incidents in Himachal Pradesh, affecting 12718 acres of land including 2789 acres of plantation area. This caused an initial financial loss of Rs 4.61 crore. To reduce these losses, the state government is considering creating a dedicated battalion of NDRF specially equipped and trained for fire fighting to reduce the losses in the forest area. The government is strengthening firefighting services in 374 forest areas that are highly vulnerable to forest fires.

Here, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu emphasized on diversifying the conifer zones with region-specific plant species to help maintain moisture in the forests and reduce the number of fire incidents. He also directed the forest department to conduct a study by the government agency to find out the causes of the fire incidents and recommend necessary actions.
A great loss of Ayurvedic herbs
The fire incidents in the forests of Himachal Pradesh do not stop. So far, more than 20 thousand dunams of forest wealth in the country have been reduced to ashes. More than 1900 fire cases have been registered in the country, which are increasing. Forest wealth worth more than Rs 7.5 crore was damaged in these incidents. Ayurvedic plants and wild animals were also damaged in these fire incidents.
